Carmella was born in 1928 in Chicago and grew up on 35th & Shields across from Comiskey Park. She attended Lindblom High School and upon graduating traveled to New Mexico on the Super Chief with a girlfriend to work at the Los Alamos Army installation on ‘The Hill’.
Carmy met Joe when she and her friend were hiking in the mountains near Los Alamos and ran into the fellow Chicagoan (a north sider from the Wrigley Field area) who offered to take their picture. Carmy and Joe married in 1949. After living in Santa Fe, the L.A. area, and Salt Lake City, they returned to Chicago, settling in Mount Prospect and making it home for over 50 years. They were longtime members of St. Emily Catholic Church.
Carmy was a dedicated homemaker who raised five children. Her passion was music, singing in The Northwest Choral Society and enjoying concerts and plays. She was outgoing and friendly, and was blessed with a close-knit group of original neighbors who remained friends through the years. She was a member of Progress Lodge #202 Croatian Fraternal Union and Family Club Solta.
